Latifa’s Annual Recital
The recital is totally sold out. Apologies to those who were unable to buy tickets. A DVD of the show will be available; details will be posted here after the recital.
This popular show has sold out for two years in a row! Order your tickets now. An evening of group and solo performances by Latifa’s students, capped off by Latifa herself. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door (if available). This event will be a benefit for the Humane Society of the United States.
The recital is held at historic Baldwin Hall (a lovely converted church with a full stage), 1358 Millersville Road, Millersville, MD. Directions to Baldwin Hall: From I-97, take exit 10A, Benfield Blvd/Severna Park. Make a right at Veterans Highway. Drive about 1 ½ miles, and then turn left at 178 S (Generals Hwy). Drive about 1 mile and make a right on Millersville Rd. Baldwin Hall is on your right.

June 21: Latifa will be teaching a workshop at 9 AM and performing in shows at 7 PM and 9:30 PM as part of the Belly Dance Superstar's "Raqs America" festival to be held June 20-22 at Joe's Movement Emporium in Mt Rainier, MD.
Workshop Description:
Saudi and Gulf Dance
Latifa will give a short presentation on the history and cultural context of this lovely African-nuanced folk dance, teach traditional steps and combinations, and then show students how to adapt these movements to provide variety in an oriental performance. Please bring a thobe if you have one. If you don't have one, bring a veil.

“Taqsim” means “instrumental solo” in Arabic, and there is an art to interpreting these beautiful, soulful pieces of music. Learn how to interpret a taqsim, using lovely slow moves either by themselves or layered with shimmies.
